Fault Finding
Electrical fault finding is a key part of the services we offer. Our careful, systematic process allows us to diagnose and repair electrical issues quickly and safely. Whether it’s an earth fault, dead short, defective component, or loose connection, we will have you back up and running in no time.
Our services include periodic testing and inspection, landlord certificates, house rewires and conversions, through to lighting (internal, external and specialist), underfloor heating, door access systems and more.
We also offer a 24/7 emergency call out service. We are fully trade accredited, and registered with NICEIC as an Approved Contractor and Domestic Installer.
1. Gathering Information
Our fault finding process begins with us collecting as much information as possible about the fault. We’ll ask when the issue started, what symptoms have been noticed, and whether anything unusual happened beforehand. We also observe the signs ourselves (flickering lights, tripped breakers, or appliances that aren’t working) to build a full picture of the problem.
2. Analysing the problem
Using our experience and technical knowledge, we narrow down the potential causes of faults. We consider the problems and where they are showing up, and any other factors that might be contributing to it. This helps us plan a targeted and efficient investigation.
3. Investigating and Identifying the fault
Next, we use specialised tools such as multimeters, continuity testers, and circuit tracers to investigate the system.
We carefully inspect wiring, trace circuits, and run electrical tests to locate the exact point and nature of the fault. We make sure we understand not just the symptom, but the root cause.
4. Rectifying the fault
Once we’ve found the fault, we carry out the necessary repairs safely and effectively. This might mean replacing faulty components, repairing damaged wiring, or isolating and fixing a short circuit.
5. Testing and verifying
After completing the repair, we thoroughly test the system to make sure everything is operating correctly and safely. This includes checking circuit continuity, insulation resistance, and earth fault protection. Only once we’re completely satisfied that the system is safe and fully functional do we consider the job done.
